Outreach service projects win the heart before it confronts the mind. A small act of kindness nudges a person closer to God, often in a profound way as it bypasses ones mental defenses. The high grace is seen in the typical reaction. "Oh, thank you!" "This is so nice!" "I can't believe this is for free!" and, "Why are you doing this?" Outreach builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God while opening the door for the gospel to be shared. It's simple, practical, effective, inexpensive and a great way for our church members to be involved in outreach.
The 3rd Monday night of each month a team of workers ministers to the inmates at the Fountain Correctional Facility in Rocky Mount, NC. This facility holds over 500 inmates. A clear cut Gospel message is shared from the Bible monthly. Over the last 12 years we have ministered to more than 5000 inmates and have witnessed over 500 decisions for Christ.
Upward Basketball and Cheerleading
Each year Peace Church offers Upward basketball and cheerleading as a means to use sports to reach out to the children of Wilson. While teaching kids about playing ball and cheering we also teach them about Christ. The motto of Upward Sports is "Every child is a winner." And when a child learns about Christ they are a winner.
Wilson Pregnancy Center
Wilson Pregnancy Center assists individuals facing the challenges of unexpected pregnancy, ministers to the emotional and spiritual needs resulting from an abortion or miscarriage, and promotes sexual abstinence until marriage. They strive to accomplish this mission by providing confidential, free services regardless of race, creed, or martial status. They provide a compassionate and confidential setting in which peer counselors offer accurate information about abortion procedures and risks; and counseling about pregnancy options.
